Responsibilities

Technical :

* Maintaining database integrity, improve database performance, document plans and

Procedures and research and utilize available tools for further enhancements.

* Physical database design of objects like table space, indexes.
* Creating different DB2 objects in different DB2 subsystems within the SYSPLEX.
* Use of various DB2 Utilities all DB2 native utilities and in house built utilities.
* Work on DB2 Helpdesk to resolve day-to-day queries and issues of application developers .This is first line of support for around 350 applications.
* Work on different mini projects, parallel to the daily tasks.
* Performance tuning of SQL’s using tools like SQLPA
* Reviewing and approving of SQL’s of developers before moving into production.




Projects



1. Client: Caterpillar, Peoria, USA. June 08 – Till Date.



Project Description:

Caterpillar Inc. is a fortune 100 company. Caterpillar Inc is the world’s leading manufacturer of construction and mining equipment, diesel and natural gas engines and industrial gas turbines. CAT has its operations across the globe with Manufacturing and Assembly from different parts of the world, providing services to various multinational companies.

This project deals with the maintenance of the client’s data warehouse which is on IBM DB2 on Z/OS. The client’s data warehouse caters to data from diverse geographical locations and also to all the various divisions of the caterpillar.

Responsibilities:

As a Database administrator, was responsible for

* Performing the storage assessments to get an exact update of the health of the database.
* Data refreshing and migrations across systems within the specified timeline.
* Creating DB2 objects (Databases, Table spaces, tables and indexes).
* Resolving all Problem tickets within the specified SLA.
* Granting authorities to different DB objects as per the user requirement.
* Using DB2 utilities like Image Copy, Re-org, Load, Runstats
* Developing and maintaining naming standards for DB2 objects such as, table spaces, tables, indexes, views etc
* Granting/revoking various authorizations to different Users/Groups
* Monitor and fix the production problems during the DBA weekend maintenance cycle for the following jobs.
1. Image copies
2. REORGs
3. Unload and Load
4. Runstats
5. Quiesce
6. Recover and Rebuild
* Creating and modifying the JCLs
* Proactive Database monitoring (Health Check)
* Provide Production Support (8x5)

Other:

* Act as an IQA for the team and maintain all the quality related documents in the central repository DOMINO DOC server. Responsible to maintain quality standards within the team and see to it that they are followed.
